Work of salvation in action!

This week I just loved experiencing the work of salvation in action! The members here are so willing to sacrifice their time in order to visit those who are learning about the gospel. As Elder Neil L. Andersen said "we sacrifice for the things we love, and we love the things we sacrifice for." The members here love the gospel and they love their neighbors, so they happily join us in sharing this good news with everyone. I too love the gospel of Jesus Christ and I love the people of Peru. I feel so blessed to be here, to feel God´s love for these people and to see the gospel change their lives. This is truly a divine work!

Search the Scriptures. Pray Always. Sacrifice much.

General Conference was the BEST!!!

General Conference was the BEST!!!

I learned that
"Spiritual questions deserve spirituals answers from God." (Elder Neil Andersen). Also, although the logic of the natural man cannot comprehend the divinity of God (Isaiah 55:8) there is absolute Truth in this universe (Elder David Bednar) and we can each know what is truth for ourselves (President Deiter F. Uchtdorf). When we obtain spiritual knowledge through personal revelation from God, it becomes an undeniable personal testimony that helps us stay on the path to eternal life. (Elder Robert D. Hales). God grants us answers because, as the Bible states "your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the Power of God."(1 Corinthians 2:5).

It is essential that we have continuous conversion, meaning... we must often put in practice Moroni’s promise (Moroni 10:3-5) to read the word of God, study it out in our mind, and then ask God if it is the truth. (James 1:5)
I know that God answers those sincere prayers because I have, more than once, received personal confirmation of the truth of this gospel. I know that God, our loving Heavenly Father, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to perform the Atonement. I know that upon His departure from this earth, Christ gave us the companionship of the Holy Ghost (John 14:26-27). As we live the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost will guide and inspire us to recognize the universal truths of our omniscient Father so that we can return to their presence for the eternities.

There is Absolute Truth.
Ask, Seek, Knock. (Matthew 7:7)

Airport transfer?

Transfers! Yep, not a joke, President is sending Hermana Rasmussen and me to el barrio Aeropuerto to reopen it for sisters. The news definitely took me by surprise, but now we are way excited to start off fresh there for my last few weeks. This week has been interesting. One thing I have noted is that little things make a big difference. A simple smile can brighten someone’s day or a happy hymn can comfort a grieving heart. We must stay positive, diligently doing the little things. Then, as Nephi said, "we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things." (1 Nephi:16.29). Hermana Rasmussen and I have been working diligently and praying to see those great things come to pass. This sudden transfer is not what we expected, but I believe it is the great answer to our prayers. The key is to make the most of the small moments then we will recognize those great miracles happen. I am so grateful for this precious time I have to be a missionary. Every day I see the hand of the Lord blessing lives and I am so blessed to constantly feel His guidance. I love his work, and cannot wait to see what miracles await!

Tender Mercies

"But behold, I , (Hermana Kimball), will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." (1 Nephi 1:20)
This week I felt and saw so many of those tender mercies from the Lord. My favorite was on Monday night. In our family home evening, Hermana Eliana shared a simple video... but it was a direct answer to my prayers. Also in testimony meeting on Sunday, various members shared similar experiences from that week; moments when they had felt the Lord´s mercy touch their lives. The Spirit filled the chapel and my heart as those sincere testimonies of the Savior were borne.

I don´t really have the words to detail the beautiful moments or to describe what it feels like to be a recipient of the Lord´s merciful hand, but, I testify that the Lord loves each of us and that he is aware of the minute details of our lives.

Surely His goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. (Psalms 23:6)

God is all around. We just need to recognize His works.

Trust in God

Hey Family and Friends,
So I am still loving life here in Peru, I cannot believe how fast the time flies. Hermana Rasmussen and I are rocking the world here in el barrio Atahualpa. This week was a trial of faith, and quite a rollercoaster ride. Luckily, we have the promise that those who "put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials." (Alma 36:3). Some of the days when all plans fell through, and the streets were empty because of the rain, it was tough. Then a couple of our progressing investigators suddenly digressed and one investigator decided that she didn’t want to do anything anymore, and another investigator disappeared... all of that can be rather discouraging. Especially, because I love the people here, I know the gospel will make them happy, and when their spiritual growth is stunted by excuses, it is hard to accept. Those were not happy lessons to walk out of. But I know that every trial has a purpose. As the Lord declared, “My people must be tried in all things, that they may be prepared to receive the glory that I have for them, even the glory of Zion." (D&C 136:31). I know that if we trust in the Lord during the trials we learn even more. I know that Christ has suffered all things for us, and so through him we can have joy. (Isaiah 53:4-5).
I have felt divine support this week, and I am so very grateful for the many tender mercies and daily answers to prayers that I have been given from God. I know that this is His work.

Trust in Him!

Families, families, families, I never realized how many families walk the streets of Cajamarca together.. in fact i am pretty sure that there weren´t so many before. But now, as we have been praying to meet complete families, they are showing up all over the place.. it is FANTASTIC! The Gospel of Jesus Christ blesses everyone who is willing to live it. However, there are extraordinary blessing available specifically for those families who choose to follow Jesus Christ.
This week we had the opportunity to visit a sister from the ward and her five kids. When we arrived the little boys were running around, the teens were sweeping the kitchen with the music blaring, and the mother was finishing the other saturday chores. The young mother, tired from the day of handwashing the family´s laundry, gave us a big hug and called her family into the main room. The whole scene changed.. the little boys gathered seats for everyone and the teens set up the DVD player to watch the video we had brought. Then after gathering the family, the mother bowed her head to pray. The Spirit of love filled the home as we shared testimony together. I was so touched by their desire to live the Gospel. Their thin walls were covered in pictures of temples, cut out from church magazines. It was clear that despite the challenge of aving a mostly absent husband, despite the difficult economy and despite the exhausting task of raising five kids... that young mother hade her sights set in the temple. She wants to be with her family for forever. She faithfully teaches her children so that they may one day have the joy of having an eternal family.
I know that familes are meant to be eternal and I know that only the Priesthood Power of God can bind families together for the eternities.

Set your sights on the eternities!
